Aerial view of the Malecón in La Paz at golden hour: palm-lined waterfront promenade, the beach and turquoise water, with Centro and the desert hills behind

Explore La Paz.

A walkable waterfront city on the Sea of Cortez, with desert behind it and islands in front. Start with the basics, then pick what you're in the mood for.

Good to know

The basics.

What's close, where to stock up, how to get around and how La Paz likes to spend a day.

What's close

Colibri Guest House is one block back from the Malecón, the waterfront promenade along the bay. Cafés, restaurants, bars, dive shops and the marinas are all an easy walk or a short ride.

Our favorite places are in the Food and Drinks guides below.

Errands

Everything you need to stock the kitchen is close by:

  • Chedraui supermarket
  • OXXO convenience store
  • Pharmacy nearby
  • ATMs in Centro

Getting around

Most of Centro is walkable. For everything else:

  • DiDi is the rideshare app most people use in La Paz, and it's inexpensive.
  • We can point you to trusted local drivers for airport transfers and day trips to Todos Santos or Los Cabos.
  • The bus terminal connects La Paz with the rest of Baja California Sur.
  • If you rent a car, there's street parking in front of the house and around the neighborhood, and we can arrange covered parking around the corner.

Slow down

Midday gets hot. Do what the locals do.

  • Walk the Malecón at sunrise
  • Coffee + pastry in Centro
  • Long lunch, longer siesta
  • Pool time back at the house
  • Malecón again at sunset
  • Rooftop drink as the lights come on
